Huston Street vs. J.J. Putz 2011 Fantasy Draft Debate This is a very close debate between to guys who should have big years. The question that will be answered is, who do I take first? Let’s establish that both Street’s and Putz’s ADP is very close. Putz is going around the 145 pick or the 13th round. Street is going around the 151st pick or the 13th round. 10 Value Pick Closers For Fantasy Drafts
2011 offers a surplus of value pick closers. Here are ten closers you need to eye in your fantasy draft for the best value for your pick. (No particular order) ADP statistics provided by www.mockdraftcentral.com. Craig Kimbrel, Atl – ADP: 282. Kimbrel is going on average in the 24th round. Top 10 Sleeper Closers For 2011
1. Craig Kimbrel, Atlanta Braves – This guy is the right-handed version of Billy Wagner. With a 98MPH fastball and a propensity to strikeout batters, Kimbrel has what it takes to close. He’s on a great team that will provide him with plenty of save opportunities. He also lacked any serious competition in the Braves bullpen, though Venters is slightly capable. 2. Drew Storen, Washington Nationals – Last year I felt some heat with discussing … Read entire article »

Arizona Diamondbacks Team Report
Here is a team without a clear closer. After trading away Chad Qualls who clearly showed he wasn’t closer material, the Diamondbacks went the rest of the season with Juan Gutierrez. At 27 year of age (yeah right), Gutierrez saved 14 consecutive games for the Diamondbacks to end the season. IN that time span, he lowered his ERA from 8.04 to 5.08. In my opinion, newly acquired J.J. Putz is the front runner for the closer … Read entire article »

The Closer Report: April 23, 2010
CLOSER NEWS:N/ASAVES:Brian Wilson (3) Wilson finally recorded a save. It was his first save since April 6, and he went out there with a vengeance. Besides a simple single, Wilson struck out the side for his third save of the season. His ERA remains at 0.00. Jonathan Papelbon (4) – Paps had another tough outing. He did get the save, but in the process looked wild walking two batters and giving up a hit. To put a positive spin on the save, he did intentionally walk Wiggington and he struck out Lugo to end the game. That is how expereinced closers do it. Francisco Rodriguez (2) – Recorded his second save in as many days. He is still lacking his trademark sharpness that we haven’t sen in awhile. He needed 22 … Read entire article »

Status of Closer Roles: Phillies, Astros, Diamondbacks
Some closer roles still not setTodd Farino, www.thecloserreport.com 1/11/2010. It’s still quite awhile from the opening of spring training and there are still a few closer jobs that managers are undecided on. Let’s start with Brad Lidge. Lidge had off-season surgery on his ailing strike zone (I mean elbow). Reports are that he may not be ready by the start of the season. If that happens, this dramatically increases the value of setup man Ryan Madison. The Phillies bullpen is a recovery room of arms as spring training looms. In the off-season, Lidge and Romero had elbow surgery, while newly acquired Denny Baez is recovering from shoulder surgery. This is great news for Madson Maniacs. If he has a solid spring and Lidge doesn’t, Madson should be the opening day closer … Read entire article »

The Diamondbacks looking to bring back Jose Valverde
According to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, the Diamondbacks are eyeing Valverde and they would like to sign him to a 1 or 2 year deal.Full Article:http://www.azcentral.com/members/Blog/NickPiecoro/70150 This is a great fit for Valverde and the Diamondbacks. Chad Qualls has some health issues and clearly is not a closer. If the Diamondbacks sign Valverde, expect the value of Valverde to risae and that of the entire Diamondback pitching staff. Qualls would be the primary setup man if they sign Valverde … Read entire article »
