Pitchers Who Could Be Closing By September. Part 2
Here is part 2 of my report on pitchers who could be closers by September. Every season closers come and go and it frustrates the heck out of fantasy managers. The list I compiled below are the leading candidates that likely won’t open the season as the closer for his perspective team, but could end the season the closer. These pitchers will get the job either from the current closer getting injured or the … Read entire article »

Chris Perez Out 4-6 Weeks With Strained Muscle, Opening Day?
If you have already been involved in early fantasy league drafts and you drsfted Chris Perez, then you learned yesterday that he is out 4-6 weeks. While he was throwing off the mound Saturday, Perez strained a muscle on his left side and now is in jeopardy of missing opening day. While management doesn’t see Perez missing opening day, this is a great cause for concern for those who have or will draft Chris Perez. He … Read entire article »

Closers Wanted: MLB Teams On The Hunt
In July and even into August I expect to see several trades involving closers and setup men. Teams are always in need of good relief pitching and start stacking their bullpens for a playoff run. I will give you the list of teams that will be on the nut for back-end relievers who will either become closers or be acquired to set up their current closer. This is critical to pay attention too if it impacts your fantasy baseball … Read entire article »

Top 10 Sleeper Closers For 2011
1. Craig Kimbrel, Atlanta Braves – This guy is the right-handed version of Billy Wagner. With a 98MPH fastball and a propensity to strikeout batters, Kimbrel has what it takes to close. He’s on a great team that will provide him with plenty of save opportunities. He also lacked any serious competition in the Braves bullpen, though Venters is slightly capable. 2. Drew Storen, Washington Nationals – Last year I felt some heat with discussing … Read entire article »

Indians place closer Kerry Wood on disabled list
CLEVELAND (AP)—Kerry Wood(notes) is back on the disabled list—for the 14th time in his career and second with the Cleveland Indians this year.Cleveland’s closer didn’t pitch this season until May 8 because of a strained muscle in his upper back that landed him on the DL during spring training. Now, he has a blistered right index finger.“Kerry was dealing with this for a while and it just didn’t get better during the All-Star break,” manager Manny Acta said Saturday. “He wasn’t available Friday, though we didn’t want to say anything and let the guys in the other dugout know.“With a doubleheader today, we just couldn’t risk being caught short in the bullpen.”Cleveland recalled reliever Jensen Lewis(notes) from Triple-A Columbus to replace Wood, who last pitched Sunday in Tampa Bay. “I’ve … Read entire article »

Kerry Wood Gets Abused By Blue Jays
Kerry Wood’s fastball was ineffective against the Blue Jays and his command was suspect. He gave up two runs on on two hits and a walk. He did look impressive striking out Wells, but outside of that it was a terrible outing for Wood. Jensen Lewis got the save in the 12th inning, relieving Perez and striking out Aaron Hill to end the inning. Lewis looked very good, but I do not feel that there is any threat to Wood’s job. Yet. It was his first blown save of the season. … Read entire article »
