Closer Trade Deadline Analysis: Joakim Soria, Kansas City Royals
By Todd Farino, www.thecloserreport.com A particularly interesting closer that many teams will be calling about is Joakim Soria of the Kansas City Royals. Granted he hasn’t had the best year and will likely command a huge signing fee if a team wants to hand him a contract extension for 2012. Still, Soria is a proven closer with the talent that a playoff bond team needs, the only questions are, can he handle the pressure of being … Read entire article »

Joakim Soria Back To Closing, Notches 8th Save
It didn’t last long as the Royals put their elite closer back into the ninth inning. He did record the save, but not before loading the bases. Soria gave up two hits and then walked the bases loaded before popping up Corey Patterson. It was Soria’s eighth save of the season and his first since returning. He needed 28 pitches to get the save and might not pitch tomorrow if called upon. The Temporary closer Aaron … Read entire article »

By Todd Farino, www.thecloserreport.com Check out our updated depths charts here. Oakland Athletics After the immediate failure of Grant Balfour, Manager Bob Geren went right back to Brian Fuentes. After Fuentes went 2/2 in saves, Andrew Bailey was activated and has now become the closer for the Oakland Athletics. While he blew his first save chance against the Red Sox, Bailey has looked outstanding and should have no problems going forward as the closer. Lets just hope he stays healthy. Soria Out As Closer, Welcome In Aaron Crow
Personally I didn’t think it was going to happen, but yesterday Ned Yost announced that Joakim Soria was no longer the closer for the Royals and that rookie Aaron Crow would take over as the closer as Yost put it, “for the time being”. I’m not sure I like this move, but I understand what Yost is doing. There is clearly something wrong with Soria. Either his mechanics are off or he is hurt, so … Read entire article »
