Baseball Bullpen Depth Charts Update 6.7.11
By Todd Farino, www.thecloserreport.com Check out our updated depths charts here. Oakland Athletics After the immediate failure of Grant Balfour, Manager Bob Geren went right back to Brian Fuentes. After Fuentes went 2/2 in saves, Andrew Bailey was activated and has now become the closer for the Oakland Athletics. While he blew his first save chance against the Red Sox, Bailey has looked outstanding and should have no problems going forward as the closer. Lets just hope he stays healthy. The Closer Report’s Weekend Swing 5.29.2011
The weekend swing was a term I coined while discussing my head-to head leagues on my fantasy baseball podcasts. It was used to describe the games that would be played Friday through Sunday and could have a major impact on the number of wins and losses I received for the week H2H. I’m taking that term to a whole new level for The Closer Report. Each weekend I will report on … Read entire article »

Baseball Bullpen Depth Charts Update 4.25.11
Check out our latest depth charts update on our Depth Charts page. By Todd Farino, www.thecloserreport.com St. Louis Cardinals Since the fall of Ryan Franklin, this bullpen is a mess. The new Closer Mitchell Boggs has been doing a great job nad already has three saves. However, where they plan to use Ryan Franklin, Jason Motte, or Eduardo Sanchez. Only Trever Miller (Lefty Specialist) has a certain role. Both Sanchez and Motte have been used as … Read entire article »

Frank Francisco Activated From The DL
The Blue Jays activated Frank Francisco from the DL and is active from tonight’s game. The Blue Jays traded for Francisco during the off-seaosn and he was slated for the closer job until he strained his right shoulder. It will be interesting to see what the Blue Jays do. They obviously won’t use Francisco out of the gate to close and Jon Rauch has pitched well has the closer with 3/3 in saves and a 2.70 ERA. … Read entire article »

MLB Spring Training Update: Dotel Out, Francisco Hurt, Rauch In
As I expected, Octavio Dotel will not be competing for the closer job in Toronto. Instead, he’ll likely be the setup man or 7th inning reliever. Not only has he been lit up this spring to a tune of a 15.00 ERA, but he is also suffering from a sore right hamstring. The leading candidate for the job, Frank Francisco has been sidelined for over a week with tightness in his right pectoral muscle. He … Read entire article »

MLB Spring Training: Fantasy Closer Battles
Here are some early returns for some tight closer battles during 2011 Spring Training. Craig Kimbrel Vs. Jonny Venters – So far, at least stat wise the job is going to Venters. He’s thrown four perfect innings, while striking out three. Kimbrel has also struckout three in 2.1 innings, but has a ERA at 15.43 on 4 ER thanks to a bad outing. In my opinion it’s Kimbrel’s job to lose, not Venters to win. Kevin … Read entire article »

2011 Fantasy Baseball: Top 10 Closers To Avoid Drafting
As it is every year, closers come and go throughout the season. Whether it is performance based or injury, they will be replaced. Here are 10 closers that despite their ADP, career numbers, or Closer Report Draft Kit ranking, I’d avoid at all costs. 1. Ryan Franklin, STL- Ok, wasn’t his 15 minutes up two years ago? Give credit where it’s do to the steroid survivor that he’s lasted this long. He will LIKELY open as the … Read entire article »

Jon Rauch Signs With The Blue Jays
Reliever and part-time closer Jon Rauch signed with the Toronto Blue Jays. Rauch gets a $3.5 million salary this year, and the Blue Jays have a $3.75 million club option for 2012 with a $250,000 buyout. Rauch joins a already stacked Blue Jays bullpen that includes Jason Frasor, Casey Janssen, SHawn Camp, Jesse Carlson, and Octavio “Don’t Tell Me” Dotel. Dotel will be the closer to start spring training and likely the season, but his age, injury … Read entire article »

Free Agent Update: Jon Rauch
Jays and Rays seeking Rauch? By Mark J. Miller. January 14, 2011 The Minnesota Twins declined arbitration on reliever Jon Rauch and now the man who earned 21 saves last season while replacing closer Joe Nathan is seeing interest from the Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays, according to Sports Illustrated. The Rays, of course, just lost closer Rafael Soriano to the New York Yankees. The 32-year-old Rauch, an eight-season veteran, had an ERA of 3.12 … Read entire article »
