Twins bring Capps back from DL

The Associated Press – As Seen on Yahoo! Sports MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins will reinstate closer Matt Capps from the 15-day disabled list. The Twins announced Thursday that Capps will return for Friday’s game against Oakland. He has been out for three weeks due to shoulder inflammation. To make room on the roster, the Twins optioned right-handed reliever Kyle Waldrop back to Triple-A Rochester. Capps pitched two innings on a rehab assignment with Class A Fort … Read entire article »

Capps Heading to the DL; Perkins Time to Shine

Capps Heading to the DL; Perkins Time to Shine

Well, I’ve been waiting for it all year, but Matt Capps threw out some Voodoo and kept himself rolling with a very good, if not great season up to June 15th. It was then that Capps got cranked (not unheard of) and later complained of shoulder soreness. After that he was removed from the closer role temporarily to rest, but after going back to work, still had soreness. Now, he is expected to have … Read entire article »

Top 5 Most Overrated Closers of the 2012 Season. So Far…

Baseball is a long season and with long seasons comes streaks and bouts of good luck.  In the end though, it all evens itself out.  As we sit here in early June we notice several closers who are pitching well beyond what anybody expected.  The question is, will it continue?  Will those closers end up falling down on their faces and costing their fantasy owners big?  I will examine five closers that I think pose … Read entire article »

The Closer Report: Closer’s Rise and Fall, April 30, 2012

Closers on The RISE Santiago Casilla, SF – After getting pulled in the ninth and losing a save chance, Casilla has bounced back.  He saved three games last week and has his season ERA down to 1.04 and a WHIP of 0.92. Chris Perez, CLE – You have to give it to Chris Perez.  As bad as he has been in some appearances this season and with the fact he was injured in spring training, … Read entire article »

Closer Daily Dish: Capps, Axford, Cordero, Rivera, Aceves

Closer Daily Dish: Capps, Axford, Cordero, Rivera, Aceves

It was a relatively quiet night for closers Monday, but there was some activity that owners were excited to see.  Almost all the closer activity was in the American League, so lets start there. Mariano Rivera notched his fourth save of the season Monday night in a 7-4 win over the Rangers. Rivera didn’t look like the 42-year old fading pitcher a lot of us expected.  He had a 1-2-3 inning on 13 pitches against … Read entire article »

Closer Daily Dish: Nathan, Capps, Cruz, Rodriguez

Yesterday had some interesting developments that went down in MLB that concerned closers.  Let’s start in Boston where Rangers manager Ron Washington used Alexi Ogando to setup closer Joe Nathan in the 6-3 win over the Red Sox.  Mike Adams was not used in the eighth inning, but was warming up when Nathan was having problems closing out the game in a non-save situation. Nathan was roughed up for a run on one hit … Read entire article »

Pitchers Who Could Be Closing By September. Part 2

Pitchers Who Could Be Closing By September. Part 2

Here is part 2 of my report on pitchers who could be closers by September. Every season closers come and go and it frustrates the heck out of fantasy managers.  The list I compiled below are the leading candidates that likely won’t open the season as the closer for his perspective team, but could end the season the closer.  These pitchers will get the job either from the current closer getting injured or the … Read entire article »

Struggling Closers Leading Into The All-Star Break

Struggling Closers Leading Into The All-Star Break

It’s been a trying year for the closer role. While we have watched several great performances from new and old closers like Craig Kimbrel , Joel Hanrahan, Kyle Farnsworth, and Francisco Cordero. There has also been its share of terrible and down right ugly performances by closers. Many of the closers on this list could be in danger of losing their job, especially around the trade deadline. Here are some closers who have already … Read entire article »
