Struggling Closers Leading Into The All-Star Break

Struggling Closers Leading Into The All-Star Break

It’s been a trying year for the closer role. While we have watched several great performances from new and old closers like Craig Kimbrel , Joel Hanrahan, Kyle Farnsworth, and Francisco Cordero. There has also been its share of terrible and down right ugly performances by closers. Many of the closers on this list could be in danger of losing their job, especially around the trade deadline. Here are some closers who have already … Read entire article »

Blown Saves Among The Top Closers: Rivera, Feliz

Blown Saves Among The Top Closers: Rivera, Feliz

Over the past few days we’ve seen some of the top closers in major league baseball blow big saves.  Neftali Feliz, who is recently off of the DL, let down his owners not once, but twice.  On May 18th and 19th he blew saves against the mighty Kansas City Royals, including giving up a solo home run to rookie prospect Eric Hosmer.  Last night he did it again, this time giving up a infield hit to Mike Aviles after … Read entire article »

The Closer Report: Closer Injury Updates 5.5.2011

The Closer Report: Closer Injury Updates 5.5.2011

Brandon Lyon, HOU – Lyon will have his pitching shoulder checked out in Houston today to see why he feels the shoulder is weak. This comes after Lyon got hammered Wednesday afternoon and blew the save. Lyon has a history of injuries, but more so being inconsistent. I’m not sure if his recent blow up isn’t just Brandon Lyon. I did not expect him to keep the closer job past mid-May, so I’m not … Read entire article »

The Closer Report: Closer Injury Updates

David Aardsma, SEA – Aardsma has been recovering from hhip surgery in the off-season. He has been getting knocked around in Tacoma, but feels good.  Manager Eric Wedge won’t rush him back, but wants him to be more comfortable with his surgically repaired hip.  According to the Seattle Times Aardsma said, ” “It went well. I felt good. And that’s the most important thing,” he said. “I actually felt like I had some good … Read entire article »

Neftali Feliz Inflames Fantasy Owners; 15-Day DL

Neftali Feliz Inflames Fantasy Owners; 15-Day DL

The Texas Rangers put their closer on the 15-Day DL retroactive to April 21st with rotator cuff inflammation. Feliz reported tightness in his shoulder. This is terrible news closer Feliz and the Rangers. Rotator cuffs are serious issues for hard throwing pitchers and it could be 4-6 weeks before we see Feliz again. With Mark Lowe in the minors and Frank Francisco in Toronto, the Rangers have limited options. First guess would be Darren O’ Day, but he’s just … Read entire article »

Hot/Cold Closers 4.19.2010

Hot/Cold Closers 4.19.2010

Each week I will present the HOT and COLD closers for the week. HOT CLOSERS Mariano Rivera, NYY – Rivera locked down three saves and for kicks, a win.  He has had a great start to the season with seven saves, but I still maintain that is health throughout the season could cause headaches for fantasy managers. Chris Perez, CLE   – Perez only recorded one save over 2.1 innings of work.  He is still sporting … Read entire article »

Closer News and Notes 4.5.11

Closer News and Notes 4.5.11

Here are some notes from the wolrd of closers. Heath Bell - Bell has opened the season looking sharp.  Tonight he took care of Giants in order on nine pitches.  So far my worries of Heath Bell regressing aren’t being seen. Sean Marshall – Sean Marshall was brought in to close out the Cubs game today , but Marmol owners shouldn’t worry. Carlos Marmol pitched three straight days and was getrting a much needed day off. Jordan … Read entire article »

Neftali Feliz Will Close in 2011

Neftali Feliz Will Close in 2011

After two appearances in spring training in a starting role and after talks with Nolan Ryan, Neftali Feliz will stay the closer for the Rangers.  Newly acquired Mark Lowe was prepared to become the stopper, but hasn’t performed at all well so far this spring. In my eyes this was a joke.  Clearly Feliz can be a starter and likely one day he will be.  After saving 40 games last year and with Texas moving Frank Francisco, … Read entire article »

Fantasy Baseball: 2011 Top 15 Closer Rankings

By Ryan Lester, www.lesterslegends.com Click here to enter the 2011 Fantasy Baseball Team Name Contest Here’s a look at some fantasy basketball players that blew up the box score last night. . 1. Brian Wilson, San Francisco Giants: Wilson led the Majors in saves (48) last year while posting a 1.81 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 93 Ks. . 2. Heath Bell, San Diego Padres: His stats read almost identical to Wilson’s. It’s really a preference thing here. I like Wilson because his starting pitching staff is better. Plus, without Adrian Gonzalez, the Padres could struggle to give him leads. . 3. Neftali Feliz, Texas Rangers: His stuff is filthy. He will get to close right out of the gate. He has a 0.82 WHIP and a .160 BAA in 100-1/3 innings. . 4. Joakim Soria, Kansas City Royals: … Read entire article »

2011 Fantasy Baseball Closer Drafting Strategy

2011 Fantasy Baseball Closer Drafting Strategy

OK, I am finally ready to give away my ultimate strategy for drafting closers in 2011.  Every season is different for many reasons. 1.  How many closer jobs are locks and how many are up for grabs. 2.  Who is coming off down years or injuries. 3.  What new closers are entering the market of competition. 4.  What have the teams done to not only solidify their perspective bullpens, but create more opportunities fpr their closer. 5.  Where are certain … Read entire article »
