Closer Trade Deadline Rumors: St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals have many needs for the upcoming trade deadline. Their primary focus will be on adding a closer, a lefty, and anything else they can get their hands on without giving up too many of their top prospects. Here are the latest Cardinals closer rumors that I could find in print or on the internet. St. Louis Cardinals Today, the St. Louis Cardinals will acquire Octavio Dotel in a 4-player deal for Colby Rasmus. Read … Read entire article »

Closers Wanted: MLB Teams On The Hunt
In July and even into August I expect to see several trades involving closers and setup men. Teams are always in need of good relief pitching and start stacking their bullpens for a playoff run. I will give you the list of teams that will be on the nut for back-end relievers who will either become closers or be acquired to set up their current closer. This is critical to pay attention too if it impacts your fantasy baseball … Read entire article »

Baseball Bullpen Depth Charts Update 5.3.11
Check out our latest depth charts update on our Depth Charts page. There has been a lot of movement in major league baseball depth charts as far as bullpens are concerned, but still some important moves have been made. Washington Nationals When the season opened and Sean Burnett came out as the closer I though Jim Riggleman had lost his mind. However, Burnett showed to be a strong closer for about three saves, and then faded. He has … Read entire article »

Closer Circus: Is Eduardo Sánchez Closing in St. Louis?
In last night’s game, the bullpen misery fo rth Cardinals continued with Ryan Franklin giving up two more runs with recording an out and rasiig his nightmare season ERA to 10.12. Trever Miller wasn’t much better. When it came to the ninth inning, Eduardo Sánchez entered the game, not Mitchell Boggs. This could have been because Boggs threw 23 pitches the night before and had pitched 3/5 previous days. Sanchez, attempting his first save opportunity of his … Read entire article »

Ryan Franklin Starts Exactly Where I Expected
If you own Heath Bell, you love Ryan Franklin. If you own Ryan Franklin you are likely wondering why and trying to find if Jason Motte was still a free agent in their league. Franklin blew his first save of the season by giving up a home run to the new Babe Ruth, Cameron Maybin. Granted it was the only hit he gave up, it just shows that Franklin is not a closer and … Read entire article »

MLB Spring Training: Fantasy Closer Battles
Here are some early returns for some tight closer battles during 2011 Spring Training. Craig Kimbrel Vs. Jonny Venters – So far, at least stat wise the job is going to Venters. He’s thrown four perfect innings, while striking out three. Kimbrel has also struckout three in 2.1 innings, but has a ERA at 15.43 on 4 ER thanks to a bad outing. In my opinion it’s Kimbrel’s job to lose, not Venters to win. Kevin … Read entire article »

2011 Fantasy Baseball: Top 10 Closers To Avoid Drafting
As it is every year, closers come and go throughout the season. Whether it is performance based or injury, they will be replaced. Here are 10 closers that despite their ADP, career numbers, or Closer Report Draft Kit ranking, I’d avoid at all costs. 1. Ryan Franklin, STL- Ok, wasn’t his 15 minutes up two years ago? Give credit where it’s do to the steroid survivor that he’s lasted this long. He will LIKELY open as the … Read entire article »

Sneaky Closer Candidates for 2011
Hey, we all know most of the obvious choices at closer. However, every spring there are normally a few closers that surprise fantasy baseball managers by getting the job over the predicted candidate. For years I’ve been pointing these guys out to you and here are a few that will shake the world! Ok, maybe not that big, but certainly help your fantasy team by drafting a closer in the latest of rounds. After have … Read entire article »

Top 10 Sleeper Closers For 2011
1. Craig Kimbrel, Atlanta Braves – This guy is the right-handed version of Billy Wagner. With a 98MPH fastball and a propensity to strikeout batters, Kimbrel has what it takes to close. He’s on a great team that will provide him with plenty of save opportunities. He also lacked any serious competition in the Braves bullpen, though Venters is slightly capable. 2. Drew Storen, Washington Nationals – Last year I felt some heat with discussing … Read entire article »

St. Louis Cardinals Closer Report
Motte is out as closer in St. Louis. LaRussa has gone with McClellan, Reyes, and Franklin to secure ball games recently. Motte has been moved to earlier innings to get more experience. Get Chris Perez. Perez is on fire in the minors. He has healed from his sore shoulder and has pitched 4 innings with no runs and 4 strikeouts. If and when the call up Perez they will likely give him a shot, but still mix in Franklin. … Read entire article »
