Chris Perez Out 4-6 Weeks With Strained Muscle, Opening Day?

If you have already been involved in early fantasy league drafts and you drsfted Chris Perez, then you learned yesterday that he is out 4-6 weeks.  While he was throwing off the mound Saturday, Perez strained a muscle on his left side and now is in jeopardy of missing opening day.

While management doesn’t see Perez missing opening day, this is a great cause for concern for those who have or will draft Chris Perez.  He does have a short histroy of injuries, so this isn’t a surprise.  If we know major league clubs, they will not rush Perez back and he will likely need extended spring training till late April.  That leaves the door open for Vinnie Pestano, the Cleveland Indians setup man.  Pestano had a great 2011, posting a 2.32 ERA and striking out 84 in 62 innings.

If you do draft Chris Perez, jump on Vinnie Pestano not to far down the road in the draft in order to make sure you protect your investment.
