I agree. Olin. They figured Bailey was younger and cheaper. Don't be shocked if Huston Street is a Red Sox by July 1 or even Brandon League.

Todd :
thought i'd give you a bit of a "jab" , just to let you know that
i'm still catching your pod-casts (in archives) and reading your articles .

here goes :
if your beloved sawx hadn't been such tight-wads , and paid papelbon what he was worth , to begin with , they wouldn't be sooo far up
shit's creek .

Hey Olin. Great question. I talked with a couple of my buddies who follow the Brewers and the feelings on Francisco Rodriguez. FIrst off, his contract is up after 2012. If the Brwers were to crumble in 2012 and by the trade deadline be out of playoff contention, there would be a sort of fire sale. Francisco Rodriguez would be one of the first to go. Where and how fast he goes will depend on how well he pitches. If KROD pitches well, he can go to a number of teams. WHich teasm will depend on who those teams are playing. I would suspect that if the Brewers find themselves out on contention very early, look for KROD to move in early to mid-July. To who, I do not know at this point. Whoever needs a closer or additional depth to their bullpen.

Todd :
as this is your most recent article , i will ask my question here ,
though it is a bit-off topic .

F-Rod , by his own admission and actions , seems genuinely happy to return as Axford's set-up man .
and , Milwaukee is happy to have him back for 2012 .

however , should the Brewers fall out of contention for the play-off race , what are the chances that they trade F-Rod to another team ??
and , can you give me a time-table on when this MIGHT happen ?

thanking you , in advance .

Olin,
You take me a tad to literal. Of course I won't take them all in the 13th round, I'm just speaking from the POV of being in a draft and telling managers, that guy is good to go in the 13th round.

I agree with you on Guerra. However, Jansen can get the job before the season starts. Also, he's not a bad bullpen guy to have. I'll certainly draft him.

As for Melancon and handcuffing, when I build a bullpen I try to get 2 setup men at the very least. If I drafted Bailey, I'll try to get Melacon later. Podcast in 5 minutes. See you at the show!

Nice article , Todd , but I want to talk about the pod-cast show that you did last night .
I always seem to enjoy your shows , and I DO recognize that you're a full-fledged closer "junkie" , but how many times did I hear you say "if this guy's available in the 13th round , I'm taking him !! ?
I might be mis-remembering , but I bet that you must have said that about 4 or 5 different closers !!
I must be doing something wrong .
I only get one pick in the 13th round of my drafts .
You have to tell me , "what's your secret ?"

You're obviously a "true" expert , when it comes to closers .... maybe the only one out there on these inter-webs ... which is 'why' I keep showing up .
BUT , I think we're going to philosophically butt heads (what's new ?) more than once during the year .

Right now ,
I want my saves quick and fast .
I want them now ... today .... not tomorrow .
So , while Kenley may be the superior talent , I'm drafting Javy ... 6 ways to Sunday .... BECAUSE - HE HAS - THE JOB .
The same goes for every closer situation , all the way down to Matt Krapps.

Don't get me wrong , I'm not against hand-cuffing , but I won't draft a hand-cuff unless the choice is pretty obvious , and then , only AFTER the closer is off the board .
Melancon seems to be the perfect example .
"Why ?"
For all of the obvious reasons , BUT , the clincher is ==> Bobby Jenks is toast . There IS no other guy .
Situations where multiple options exist (A's , Rockies , Houston , Orioles , etc) , I'm not burning a draft pick .
I might play waiver-wire roulette , but I'm not wasting a draft pick on who "might be" the next closer .

regards .
