Top 5 Most Overrated Closers of the 2012 Season. So Far…

Baseball is a long season and with long seasons comes streaks and bouts of good luck.  In the end though, it all evens itself out.  As we sit here in early June we notice several closers who are pitching well beyond what anybody expected.  The question is, will it continue?  Will those closers end up falling down on their faces and costing their fantasy owners big?  I will examine five closers that I think pose … Read entire article »

Sell High MLB Closers 5.30.2012

Sell High MLB Closers 5.30.2012

As we exit May and welcome the warmth of June, it’s time to take a second look at our bullpens and reevaluate them.  It’s important to consider “hot starts” in the cool spring and how those pitches don’t work as well in the hot summer.  There are several closers that I have kept my eye on that have had extremely hot starts, but with the perfect storm of the summer heat wave barreling down on … Read entire article »

Perez cheered, gets save as Indians beat Tigers

Perez cheered, gets save as Indians beat Tigers

By TOM WITHERS | The Associated Press – 11 hours ago, Yahoo! Sports. CLEVELAND (AP) When the bullpen door swung open, Chris Perez braced himself. After criticizing Cleveland’s fans for failing to support the first-place Indians, Perez wasn’t sure what to expect when he came in for the ninth inning with another game on the line. As he entered the field, there was only one sound. The roar carried him. ”That’s the loudest I’ve ever been cheered here,” Perez … Read entire article »

Closer Daily Dish: Casilla, Bell, Guerra, Johnson

Closer Daily Dish: Casilla, Bell, Guerra, Johnson

In tonight’s action I got to watch to of the hotter closers in baseball, Javy Guerra and Jim Johnson.  Both have been a welcome surprise to fantasy bullpens, especially with all the injury losses this season.  Javy Guerra was even doubted by many as to whether or not he would even be the closer for the Dodgers with Kenley Jansen wanting a crack at the job.  After five consecutive saves to open the season, … Read entire article »

Chris Perez Out 4-6 Weeks With Strained Muscle, Opening Day?

Chris Perez Out 4-6 Weeks With Strained Muscle, Opening Day?

If you have already been involved in early fantasy league drafts and you drsfted Chris Perez, then you learned yesterday that he is out 4-6 weeks.  While he was throwing off the mound Saturday, Perez strained a muscle on his left side and now is in jeopardy of missing opening day.  While management doesn’t see Perez missing opening day, this is a great cause for concern for those who have or will draft Chris Perez.  He … Read entire article »

2012 Player Profile: Chris Perez, Cleveland Indians

2012 Player Profile: Chris Perez, Cleveland Indians

Chris Perez had a break out 2011.  After three season (two and half technically), Perez has established himself as the closer of the Cleveland Indians. Last season, Perez was 36/40 in save opportunities with a 3.32 ERA.  While on the surface, 2011 looks like a tremendously perfect year for Chris Perez, it was anything but that.  First, his ERA and WHIP jumped from his previous years success. What was also strange was Perez’s inability to record strikeouts.  … Read entire article »

Top 10 Sleeper Closers For 2011

Top 10 Sleeper Closers For 2011

1. Craig Kimbrel, Atlanta Braves – This guy is the right-handed version of Billy Wagner.  With a 98MPH fastball and a propensity to strikeout batters, Kimbrel has what it takes to close.  He’s on a great team that will provide him with plenty of save opportunities.  He also lacked any serious competition in the Braves bullpen, though Venters is slightly capable. 2. Drew Storen, Washington Nationals – Last year I felt some heat with discussing … Read entire article »
